We delivered a comprehensive structural design for a dream home in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.  A close working relationship with HEM Architects and Terry Huggett Developments resulted in a high quality end product built to the rigerous Passivhaus standard.

The home’s utilises a hybrid structure, pairing a robust steel-framed ground floor with a lightweight timber frame first floor. A  reinforced concrete retaining wall features on three sides. Achieving a clean, exposed concrete finish internally required meticulous structural detailing – a hallmark of our approach to structural design for high-end residential builds.

A steel portal frame provides the necessary lateral stiffness for a facade dominated by large areas of glazing, designed to maximize the stunning countryside views.

Sinking the ground floor into the hillside was one of the biggest structural tasks of the project. Rather than just sitting on the land, the home is built into the slope, requiring a specialised foundation design and a retaining wall system to safely hold back the weight of the earth.

Sustainability & energy efficiency were a core focus for the client.  we eliminated cold bridges  from the structure to ensure the home remains incredibly energy efficient, while reclaimed stone was used for the exterior to reduce the embodied carbon of the build.

JAM Structural Design oversaw the structural design of the project from technical design stage through to completion on site.
